No Carb, Low Carb, Good Carb

November 25th by Robyn Baldwin 2 Comments

When I started out changing my eating habits I experimented with manipulating carbs in my diet.

I was completely uneducated and actually thought I needed to be on a no carb diet. I’m going to then guess that many people have this misconception. I had barely any energy so I thought “ok let me try a low carb diet. ” I didn’t learn until Lyzabeth Lopez’s Hourglass Workout that I really should be eating good carbs to both lose unwanted fat and build muscle.

Good carbs are unprocessed carbohydrates in their ‘natural’ state – or very close to their natural state. Source: goodcarbs.org

This is the nerd side of me but I loved researching this post. Since I have no background in nutritional health or the time to study it I just need to know the basics to ensure I’m choosing the right carbs for my eating.

3 Things I KEEP IN MIND

  • high in FIBER: helps you stay full longer (and avoid overeating), provides sustained energy, lowers cholesterol levels, helps to remove toxins from the body
  • low GLYCEMIC INDEX: stabilizes blood sugar levels and insulin production which stimulate metabolism and promotes fat loss and long-term weight maintenance
  • high in NUTRIENTS: natural vitamins, minerals & phytonutrients promote health and help to prevent chronic disease
