Definition of an Alpha Female
An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life harmony.
Type A Alpha Females often come across as strong willed and selfish. When we stay true to our authentic selves and stay true to our mission we shine. A true Alpha Female puts the needs of herself first without sacrificing her principles or dignity. She fills up her cup or gas tank first so that she has enough energy for her friends, family, and coworkers. She strives for synergy with the world around her. She wants a perfect work/life balance but knows that it requires being true to your priorities and what makes you happy. She is never complacent about striving for better and nurtures relationships with the people in her life.
Meet Melissa Ramos!
Melissa Ramos is a nutritionist with a background in Chinese Medicine and owner of Sexy Food Therapy Inc., Melissa Ramos’ helps people feel sexy from the inside out with a focus on digestion and hormone imbalances. She is a regular expert on CTV’s The Social, has been a TED speaker and has been named one of Canada’s up-and-coming health and wellness stars by FLARE magazine. Ramos is an official health writer for Huffington Post and has even appeared on CBS’ Emmy Award Winning show The Doctor’s. Her popular “Quickie” newsletter videos provide people with an opportunity to get their weekly fix by offering food, supplement and lifestyle tips in an unconventional but engaging way. Melissa’s passion is infectious and her continual dedication is to inspire, empower and motivate as many women throughout the globe.
How are you an Alpha Female?
I’m all about values! Prioritizing is very important. I can’t be afraid to put some things (yes, even relationships) on the back burner for awhile to find a happy medium between the different factors in my life that matter most to me. I make sure to always schedule in dedicated Me Time, be it a massage or just down time to relax and make sure I’m being the best that I can be.
What does work/life harmony look like for you?
Lists, keeping scheduled, and again, prioritizing my values are so important for finding harmony. Also, self-care is key. Even if I’m putting 100 percent into my work, taking the extra steps to take care of myself gives me the power to put in MORE and come out feeling even stronger.
What are you most passionate about?
Hormones, obviously, which we talk a lot about in my program! Also, watching movies, reading, and listening to audio books are all very important to me, and I’m also very into online marketing. I love traveling and learning new things wherever I go!
What are your daily health habits that keep your immune system boosted?
I focus on keeping my stress levels down, pay attention to my digestive system (70% of your immune system is in there!), and I use essential oils and liposomal vitamin C (vitamin C is amazing for adrenal health). Recently I purchased a Living Libations salt-inhaler that I can use when I’m traveling. Probiotics are the best, and I’m very passionate about them and their many benefits – especially DDS-1 and Lactovacillus acidophilus. Humans are made up of so much bacteria, we need to take care of it!
What is your weekly fitness routine like?
I stay hydrated and stay active – movement is important, even if it’s just a quick break from work to do a vinyasa. I tried a lot of different things before I found a routine that worked for me. I’m in LOVE with PiYo, and I also do weights. It takes time, so take it easy, know your limits, and don’t push it right away. Achieving good fitness doesn’t have to be work-out-til-you-drop every single day; resting and making sure to NOT burn out is taking care of your body too!
What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?
I keep a good diet, and I and remember to relax. A way I like to re-charge is to set aside 45 minutes to lie down and listen to an audio recording. At night, depending on my work schedule for the day, dinner and The Walking Dead!
What are your daily/weekly nutrition habits that keep you well nourished?
I have a shot every morning with lemon, turmeric, black pepper, and juiced ginger. Lunch is my biggest meal of the day, usually something like salmon or chicken or maybe something vegan. Dinner is smaller, like soups or lunch leftovers, and I like healthy snacks throughout the day like apples, my post-workout smoothie, and my energizing hot chocolate with cacao and maca.
What are pain points of being an Alpha Female that you have to problem solve for?
As an Alpha Female, being assertive can turn others off in the workplace. I’m very direct, and I know what I want and I won’t settle for less. People often see tough love as a negative thing, but it’s not! Being motivated and empowered can also empower those around you, sometimes it just takes the right people to see it. But changing my approach to certain situations helps, while still getting my point across.
What is your definition of happiness?
I don’t believe in striving for constant happiness – it’ll make you miserable! Instead of trying to force fake happiness during a struggle, focus on positivity within the struggle. When life gets rough, find a ray of light in the darkness and run with it. You’ll feel better!
