Alpha Female Friday – Pauleanna Reid

Every Friday I am going to feature a woman that I adore. They exude all the qualities of an Alpha Female and I want to dig into their lives to get some nuggets of knowledge to help us all live happier, healthier lives balancing life & work.

Definition of an Alpha Female

An Alpha Female is a powerful and assertive woman. Her confidence is due to being an intelligent and intellectual problem-solver. Being an Alpha Female is a State of Mind based on choosing ambition and being proud of it. She strives for a happy and healthy work/life balance.

Type A Alpha Females often come across as strong willed and selfish. A true Alpha Female puts the needs of her friends, family, and coworkers first, without sacrificing her principles or dignity. A true Alpha Female strives for synergy with the world around her. She wants a perfect work/life balance and is never complacent in nurturing the people in her life.

How are you an Alpha Female?

I’m an Alpha Female because I proceed without permission.

Does work/life balance exist?

In my opinion it does not. Most people strive for their idea of what a perfect life looks like only to end up disappointed in the end when they experience burn out or overwhelm. A good friend taught me to integrate both. My work is my life and my life is my work. My advice is to move at your own pace. In order to add to your plate, you have to be able to let something go and to achieve this it’s imperative that you learn how to say ‘no’ without explanation. You are in control. You write your own rules. We have to take responsibility for our own lives and the choices we make.

What are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about coloring outside the lines and teaching other people how to do the same. Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience life in the way they have been told to. When you discover who you are and what you want, something magical happens and you create a space where negativity simply cannot exist. Listen, a lifetime isn’t a very long time, so whatever you still need to do, start doing it today.

What are your daily health habits that keep your immune system boosted?

I admit, I am a work in progress. I was once a high-performance athlete years ago and have completely slowed down. I can’t say that I have any solidified healthy routines, but I am trying my best to improve that. At the very least I try to drink several glasses of water daily.

What is your weekly fitness routine like?

I practice yoga/pilates and recently re-started boxing with my coach.

How do you challenge yourself fitness wise?

Every day is a struggle. Every single day. Although I have a history of athletics where it was once easy, today it’s not so easy. But, no excuses. Happiness and health is a choice and I try to choose me as often as I can. On good days, I am super proud of myself. On bad days, I rise again and try again, even when it hurts.

What are your daily habits for winding down at night and reducing stress?

I love doing anything that makes me feel like a little girl again. Whether it’s writing in my journal, sitting in Chapters bookstore reading one of my faves, going to see a movie, or hanging with friends who are supportive and uplifting. But my favorite thing to do to wind down and reduce stress is to sit in silence and quiet my mind. I have to do this for at least 5 minutes before I finally rest for the day.

What is your definition of happiness?

Happiness is dancing around the house in your underwear and singing to your favorite playlist at the top of your lungs. Not thinking about anything else but the moment.
