There are a few things that can get me to drive 4.5 hours both ways in 48 hours and one of them is my former OCR training family in Toronto. While this gym is not solely an OCR training facility with it’s focus on functional training it will definitely help build stronger more confident athletes!
While my heart is now in Ottawa, I still consider my original training peeps family so when they announce the Grand Opening Inaugural Class for One Academy I hop in the car and come out for the first Everest class! After all, as one of the original members of the now defunct Alpha Obstacle Training and having attended the very first Alpha class (oh the memories) I had to do right by the team and be at the first One Academy class!
After working a full day on Friday, I jumped in my car with my podcast playlist of un-listened episodes of Earn Your Happy & Gary Vee’s Audio Experience and I headed off to Toronto. I arrived to give Jesse Bruce (Head Trainer) & Sylvie Manaigre’s (One Academy General Manager) hugs as they finished the gym’s set up and headed off to dinner with one of my best friends at Impact Kitchen.
Plopping into bed with excitement I was ready for the first Everest class in the new facility the next morning.
The comraderie, the excitement, the energy, the circuit workout, the laughs, the sweat and the smiles were everything. We got a great circuit workout in to start the day.
I then started Everest which is a 3km, 5km or 7km run + obstacle or bodyweight exercises which we tackle after an hour long circuit workout. I only got a few exercises in before I had to hop back in my car to make it home for a BBQ we were hosting at our house.
I plan on tackling Everest this week on my own in Ottawa so that I can work on my OCR skills and get ready for a fall race that I have on my schedule.
I’m so glad I got to see everyone, grab hugs, take selfies with my good friend and trainer Jesse Bruce and get home to my Ottawa family. Needless to say Saturday was an amazing day this past weekend.
If you’re in Toronto, you MUST GO! They have sweet deals on membership’s on their website including annual & monthly memberships! Let me know if you go and how you enjoy the classes!
